Executive Director's Message
Dear TAMS Members,
As you have probably heard, I have been selected to serve you as the new Executive Director for TAMS. After 30 years in Public Schools (20 as a Superintendent), I know many of you personally. For those that I do not know, allow me to briefly introduce myself. I grew up in Winters, San Angelo, Ft. Stockton, Abilene, Waco-Midway, and Breckenridge as my father was a football coach/athletic director in those wonderful towns. I formed my world view, work ethic, and my eventual professional vocation (as a Public School employee) watching my mother and father serve in small/mid-sized towns in our great state. I began my career in Breckenridge ISD and Graham ISD and continued as Superintendent in Crowley ISD (7 years) and Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD (10 years). Throughout all of my Superintendencies (Graham, Crowley, and SCUC) I have served on the TASA Legislative Committee and carefully followed multiple updates to our school finance system. Additionally, I have followed changes to the small/mid-size allotment because of my personal background.
An FYI, I am retiring from SCUC ISD in the coming months and will officially start as your new Executive Director in January 2020. I want to personally thank our President, Jodi Duron, and members of the search committee for the thoroughness and professionalism exhibited during the search process. Their passion and dedication to TAMS really came through during the interview and completely validated my decision to apply for the position. Also, please know that Sandy Schwartz and I are working diligently to ensure a smooth transition in January 2020. I want to thank her and commend her for a job well done and for assisting me in this transition. I appreciate her collaboration immensely.
Finally, please know that I intend to get to know each of you personally in the coming months. I am very, very, very excited about this appointment and the work that lies ahead. As a 7th generation Texan, I am most excited about serving in an organization that celebrates Public Schools as the heartbeat of local communities all over this great state.
I am honored to be your new Executive Director.
Greg Gibson
